About Strolling Strings

Antioch Strolling Strings

Origin of Antioch Strolling Strings

Mrs. Betty Lawrence started the Antioch Strolling Strings in 1984 as a way for students to have an opportunity to excel in Music beyond what the schools had to offer.   Betty retired from teaching in 1987 and has been leading the Strollers ever since.    Today Katy Lawrence -Burchett, Betty’s daughter, outstanding musician and teacher leads the group with Betty’s continued assistance.

Music Students from ages 6 to 18,  if willing to practice and improve,  can join this fun group of active musicians.  Each student is required to belong to their school orchestra (if available), take private lessons, and attend a weekly Strolling Strings Rehearsal.

The Strollers play a wide variety of instruments including violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, banjo, sometimes accompanied by the piano, and flute.  They are  magical performers who are trying to maintain excellence in stringed instruments and the performing arts .
